3D Systems to pay up to USD 27 million for export violations

Regulation/policy

  • 3D Systems, a seller of 3D printers and other related products, has agreed to pay up to USD 27 million for violating export curbs.

  • 3D Systems faced allegations that it exported certain items and/or intellectual property to China without obtaining appropriate approvals, violating US export control laws.

  • The company will pay: 1) up to USD 4.54 million to settle allegations for violating the False Claims Act in connection to contracts with NASA and the US Department of Defense (DOD); 2) USD 20 million administrative settlement with the US Department of State—half suspended if the money is used to strengthen department-approved compliance programs; and 3) USD 2.8 million to the Commerce Department for exporting metal alloy powder to China without a license.

  • 3D Systems states that it is pleased to have reached a consensus with the agencies and plans to enhance its export controls program.
