Anaergia, a TSX-listed waste-to-energy company, reported that it sold its Envo Biogas plant in Tønder, Denmark to Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ Advanced Bioenergy Fund I, which is developing biogas projects in Europe and North America.
The company did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction but did report that it plans to use the funds to facilitate growth, primarily in Italy and Germany.
Anaergia first acquired and began construction on the plant in late 2021, following which, in November 2022, it provided the facility’s first biomethane for Danish pipelines. When fully operational, the Tønder facility is expected to become one of Europe’s largest biogas plants, processing up to 900,000 tons of organic waste. This in turn will produce 1.4 million MMBtu (40 million Nm3) of renewable natural gas annually. The plant qualified for a 20-year Danish Energy Agency biogas subsidy program in 2021.
Analyst QuickTake: In August 2022 , Anaergia signed an agreement with European Energy, a multinational renewable wind and solar energy producer, to supply up to 60,000 tonnes of liquefied biogenic carbon dioxide (CO2) per year for 10 years. The biogenic CO2 will be produced at the Tønder plant. Thereafter, European Energy will use this biogenic CO2 to produce green e-methanol to fuel container ships.
