Pay-per-view video content platform Zarta raises USD 5.7 million in seed funding

Funding

  • Pay-per-view video content platform Zarta raised USD 5.7 million in a seed funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Endeavor, AirAngels, and Dragonfly Capital, among others

  • Funding is set to be used for headcount expansion to ensure that the platform has sufficient resources to scale.

  • Zarta, founded in 2022 is a platform that allows creators to upload long-form videos and set a free preview length for users to watch with the platform currently in alpha testing. After the preview, users can pay a small fee to unlock the entire video, with creators receiving 75% of the payment and Zarta keeping 25% to cover processing fees and operational costs. Zarta aims to shift from conventional creator monetization models, such as ad revenue or subscriptions, and instead implement microtransactions to enhance creator payouts. While the microtransaction model has been widely implemented in the gaming industry, its application to the creator economy is relatively new.
