Trendi, a Canadian upcycled food startup (formerly Trendy Vending), introduced its rescued ingredients product line, consisting of nutritious, sustainable, and long-lasting powders and purees made from rescued fruits and vegetables.
The company will officially launch its first ingredient line on March 11, 2023, at South by Southwest (SXSW), although they are already available to wholesale customers. The product line will have four blended flavors at launch, including Berry Breeze, Mango Tango, Strawburst, and Groovy Guava, in powder and puree forms.
Trendi sources its rescued ingredients directly from farm partners in Ecuador, using misfit and unsold fruits and vegetables. The powders and purees are said to have intense flavors, with the powders being particularly flavorful due to the freeze-drying process that preserves the nutrients and flavor in about 10% of their original size and weight. The company claims that powders are lightweight, shelf-stable, and easy to store, and no refrigeration is required.
