Wing unveils new feature to pick up and deliver packages back-to-back with fewer stops

Product updates

  • Wing, the drone delivery division of Google’s parent company, Alphabet, has unveiled a new feature for its drones that enables autonomous pickup and delivery of packages back-to-back without requiring the drones to return to the launching base.

  • This is introduced as a part of its “Wing Delivery Network,” a decentralized logistics system. The system consists of drones, charging pads, and “Autoloader” stations, which will be installed at partnering retailers’ locations, where they will load items. Drones, depending on the availability, will fly over to Autoloader stations and load the package onto the device using an attached rope.

  • The company intends to roll out the new system over the course of the next year.
