Zed, a code-editing collaboration platform, has raised USD 10 million in a Series A funding round led by Redpoint Ventures, with participation from investors including Root Ventures, Matchstick Ventures, and V1.VC. The round, which values Zed at USD 40 million, brings its total funding to USD 12.5 million. The company also revealed that it is launching its beta phase.
The company plans to utilize the funds to expand its operations and team while continuing to develop and improve its product.
Zed aims to become the standard platform for open-source software development and the go-to tool for software teams. Zed enables real-time editing between users and facilitates collaboration through its built-in contacts panel. Zed plans to generate revenue primarily through a service-based model. Although the company is pre-revenue, it is launching in beta. During its private alpha stage, the waiting list for Zed grew to 12,000.
