Nutrien, a Canadian producer of potash, phosphate, and nitrogen organic fertilizers, has partnered with the Iowa Soybean Research Center (ISRC: a formal collaboration between Iowa State's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the Iowa Soybean Association, and industry partners) at Iowa State University to serve on the ISRC's industry advisory council, which guides research needs and funding priorities for the center.
Nutrien would provide financial support to the center as an industry partner, which will be leveraged with soybean checkoff funds provided by the Iowa Soybean Association, to fund soybean research at the university. The companies have a shared goal of providing valuable research outcomes that will benefit Iowa's soybean farmers. ISRC believes that Nutrien would also bring useful insight and perspective in identifying ways to improve soybean productivity and sustainability.
Nutrien is ISRC's newest industry partner, joining AGCO, Albaugh, AMVAC, BASF, Bayer, Beck's, Cornelius Seed, Corteva Agriscience, FMC, GDM, Innvictis/Simplot, Latham Hi-Tech Seeds, Merschman Seeds, Mosaic, Peterson Genetics, Syngenta, and UPL.
Analyst QuickTake: Nutrien reportedly invests more than USD 30 million annually in global R&D to develop new genetics, chemistries, and solutions. The funding support for ISRC could also align with this policy. Moreover, upon FY2022 earnings release, Nutrien also noted that it had allocated USD 1.2 billion of growth capital in 2022 to advance strategic initiatives across its Retail, Potash, and Nitrogen businesses.
