Bioenergy Devco secures USD 30 million funding from HASI

Funding

  • Bioenergy Devco, a Maryland-based developer involved in converting organic waste into renewable energy and healthy soil products, has secured a USD 30 million investment from Hannon Armstrong Sustainable Infrastructure Capital (HASI), an Annapolis-based leading climate-positive investment firm.

  • Bioenergy Devco's Maryland Bioenergy Center facility, operating in Jessup, Maryland, intends to use the funds to develop anaerobic digestion facilities across the US. The expansion is expected to promote sustainable organic waste recycling, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and provide a sustainable energy resource to more communities across the US.

  • Analyst QuickTake: HASI becomes a part of Bioenergy Devco's investor group, joining existing investors Newlight Partners, Sagewind Capital, and Irradiant Partners. The company’s previous funding round of USD 100 million from Irradiant Partners in November 2021, also aimed at developing anaerobic digestion facilities across the US. As of date, BDC has constructed 250+ anaerobic digesters globally and manages 150 facilities worldwide, having 20+ anaerobic digesters under construction in the US, including two in Delaware and Maryland.
