The Plant Based Seafood Co. unveils plant-based, shelf-stable sea scallops

Product updates

  • Virginia-based plant-based seafood manufacturer, The Plant Based Seafood Co. has debuted “Mind Blown,” a shelf-stable, plant-based sea scallops product. Launching on the 29th of March and available through the company’s website, the product is claimed to be the first shield-stable, plant-based seafood item.

  • Mind Blown first appeared at Plant Based World Expo 2022 during a cooking demonstration with celebrity chef and investor Spike Mendelsohn. In 2023, The product later appeared at Gulfood, the world’s largest food and beverage show, held in Dubai.

  • Analyst QuickTake : A shelf-stable protein product gains a competitive advantage over rival products with improved retail store positioning and velocity, as options for product location and showcase are improved. Being shelf-stable also reduces the products' impact on the environment by eliminating the use of cold storage throughout the supply chain and provides cost savings by using an ambient temperature supply chain. Earlier in 2023 , Renegade Foods launched the first shelf-stable vegan deli meat, a vegan salami available in a Direct to Consumer channel through its website.
