Eavor, a Canadian geothermal energy startup, has signed a cooperation agreement with Sonoma Clean Power, the public power provider for Sonoma and Mendocino counties in California, for the development of up to 200 MWe of new geothermal energy through the Geothermal Opportunity Zone (GeoZone) initiative.
The GeoZone initiative creates public-private partnerships for local geothermal development. Under this, Sonoma Clean Power signs contracts for power generation with private partners that provide the technology and capital to enhance geothermal capacity in the Northern California region. As such, the partnership with Eavor seeks to develop geothermal resources in the GeoZone utilizing Eavor’s closed-loop technology.
Analyst QuickTake: In March 2023 , Eavor was awarded a EUR 91.6 million (~USD 96.9 million) grant from the European Innovation Fund to support the company’s first commercial Eavor-Europe geothermal project under construction in Bavaria, Germany.
