Babylon Micro-Farms, a Virginia-based producer of portable indoor farms, has raised USD 8 million in a Series A funding round led by Venture South with participation from Virginia Venture Partners, Hull Street Capital, and New Theory Ventures. The company has also received a USD 500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation.
The company intends to use the funds for increasing the production of its container farms and marketing its solution, to expand its customer base and geographic presence across the US and internationally.
Analyst QuickTake: Babylon Micro-Farms has been working toward developing its solution and expanding its market presence. As of April 2023, Babylon Micro-Farms has deployed over 150 micro-farms (from 80 farms in May 2022) across 40 states and three countries, serving clients in the healthcare, education, and corporate dining sectors. The company also launched its latest micro-farm model, " Galleri ," in May 2022, featuring new features and controls such as improved sensor arrays, new algae mitigation, and a water temperature control system.
