EVgo, a Nasdaq-listed company operating the largest DC fast-charging station network in the US, has been selected for proposed awards of USD 6.6 million from the California Energy Commission’s (CEC) California Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Project (CALeVIP) 2.0 program.
The funding to be provided through this program aims to aid in the deployment of fast-charging infrastructure in the central and eastern regions of California through the Golden State Priority Project (GSPP). The GSPP, which was launched in January 2023, provides rebates for the installation of DC fast chargers of at least 150 kW in disadvantaged communities or low-income community census tracts.
Through this program, EVgo will be deploying over 100 DC fast charging stalls with 350 kW chargers across 17 locations in central and eastern California, including Fresno, Hayward, Manteca, El Cerrito, Antioch, and San Jose.
Analyst QuickTake: EVgo also received USD 3.6 million in grants from the CEC in June 2022 . The funds from the REACH grant (Reliable, Equitable, and Accessible Charging for multi-family Housing) were to be used to install DC Fast Chargers near multi-family housing units and to provide discounted charging rates for local residents.
