NRG Esports, a North American esports organization, has acquired the League of Legends’ division of Counter Logic Gaming (CLG). As a result, it also gains access to CLG’s slot in the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS), along with CLG's LCS team, academy team, coaches, analysts, and support staff.
Counter Logic Gaming (CLG) was founded in 2010 by George Georgallidis to promote the competitive League of Legends and bring esports to the mainstream. CLG has won several championships, including LCS Summer 2015 and LCS Spring 2016, and partnered with the Madison Square Garden Company in 2017 to further extend their success. CLG has won USD 5.3 million in total prize winnings, with a majority of it coming from Fortnite esports.
NRG plans to keep CLG’s infrastructure intact by keeping everyone on board and maintaining CLG's Culver City facility. CLG's former parent company, Madison Square Garden, will become a major shareholder in NRG. NRG intends to change the CLG’s name to NRG. The CLG name will remain in use in League of Legends until the change is official.
