Nikola Motor Company deploys electric trucks in Canada

Geographic expansion
Partnerships

  • Nikola Motor Company (Nikola), a developer of battery electric (BEV) and hydrogen fuel cell electric (FCEV) heavy-duty trucks, has announced its entrance to the Canadian market with the sale of a BEV truck and an FCEV truck to Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA).

  • The trucks will be incorporated into AMTA’s Hydrogen Commercial Vehicle Demonstrations Project, which allows carriers to use and test Class 8 hydrogen fuel vehicles on Alberta roads in order to evaluate their performance on the roads while also addressing challenges related to fuel cell reliability, infrastructure, and vehicle cost and maintenance. As a part of the partnership, AMTA will also receive refueling support via Nikola's hydrogen mobile fueler.

  • The partnership with AMTA will help Nikola promote its trucks across various trucking companies in Canada. It will also align with Nikola’s goals of reaching 300 metric tons of hydrogen supply, with 60 hydrogen stations across North America by 2026 while aligning with Canada’s goal of reaching its 2050 net zero goals.
