Vast, a space infrastructure developer, announced its intentions to launch its commercial space station, Haven-1, by August 2025, aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket. SpaceX will also provide launch services for the station's crew with its Crew Dragon vehicle.
Haven-1 will be the first module of Vast’s much larger 100-meter-long space station and will initially operate on its own before being connected with the rest of the modules as and when launched.
Haven-1, designed to accommodate up to four crew members, will initially act as an extended-stay destination for Dragon flights and provide infrastructure for science, research, and in-space manufacturing.
Vast-1 mission, slated to fly the station’s first crew, is open for bookings and has been made available for space agencies, professional astronauts, and individuals aiming to perform scientific or philanthropic work.
Analyst QuickTake: Vast has become the latest addition in the race to launch a commercial space station into orbit. However, its competitors include Axiom Space and its Axiom Station, Nanoracks , Voyager Space , Lockheed Martin-combined project Starlab, Sierra Space , and Blue Origin ’s Orbital Reef , which are much larger and well-funded projects. If Vast can keep to its August 2025 timeline, it will beat all of the players above, marking a significant milestone for the company and the space industry.
