IDEX Biometrics, a fingerprint sensor manufacturer, has developed a biometric smartcard solution by combining secure elements from STMicroelectronics (ST; a semiconductor security provider) and its own biometric system.
The solution includes the “ST31N600” secure microcontroller packaged in a single-chip EMV module, an enrollment solution, and full integrations with ST’s operating system, STPay-Topaz-Bio, and payment applets.
The company notes that the solution is tested and validated and should be deployed with banks and issuers in H1 2024.
Analyst QuickTake: IDEX has already partnered with global semiconductor company Infineon Technologies (July 2021) to launch a reference design for next-gen biometric smart card architecture. Notably, the combined biometric smartcard solution (which includes Infineon’s SLC38 secure element and IDEX’s proprietary card operating system) passed Mastercard’s Fingerprint Test Assessment Summary (FTAS) last month.
