Plenty, a California-based hydroponic farming operator, has opened its Compton Farm, which can grow up to 4.5 million lbs of leafy greens annually in a single city block in Compton, California.
The farm incorporates Plenty's patent assets, including its 3D vertical architecture, which enables a yield up to 350x greater than that of a traditional farm per acre. This farm is claimed to be the world's most technologically advanced indoor vertical farm.
The Plenty Compton Farm will initially grow four varieties of leafy greens, such as Baby Arugula, Baby Kale, Crispy Lettuce, and Curly Baby Spinach, Plenty’s newest product that just launched out of Compton.
Plenty's pesticide-free fresh leafy greens are available through a variety of channels, including Bristol Farms, Whole Foods Market stores in Northern California, local grocers in the city of Compton, Walmart stores, and as a featured meal ingredient on all Singapore Airlines flights out of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
Analyst QuickTake: Early this year, Plenty announced its decision to relocate all manufacturing operations to the Compton, California, facility following the closure of its South San Francisco facility. The company's recent funding from Realty Income (amounting to up to USD 1 billion for vertical farm development) also contributed to the opening of the new farm. Plenty has also revealed plans to construct the world's largest indoor vertical farm campus in Richmond , Virginia.
