Rivian, a developer of battery EVs, has commenced production of a more affordable variant of its R1T electric pickup truck, with deliveries expected to commence in June.
R1T trucks will be equipped with Rivian’s in-house-developed “Enduro” dual-motor drive unit. Rivian was driven to adopt the Enduro powertrain due to supply chain constraints in its more powerful quad-motor powertrain. While the quad-motor powertrain will still be available, the introduction of the Enduro variant will help Rivian address its production delays. However, the Enduro powertrain will offer a range of up to 400 miles compared to its quad-motor powertrain, which has a maximum range of 321 miles.
The trucks will be available at a starting base price of USD 73,000.
Rivian initially started production of the Enduro drive units in February for the company’s electric delivery vans, which is now extended to its pick truck.
