Rivian produces cheaper R1T using its 'Enduro' dual-motor powertrain

Product updates

  • Rivian, a developer of battery EVs, has commenced production of a more affordable variant of its R1T electric pickup truck, with deliveries expected to commence in June.

  • R1T trucks will be equipped with Rivian’s in-house-developed “Enduro” dual-motor drive unit. Rivian was driven to adopt the Enduro powertrain due to supply chain constraints in its more powerful quad-motor powertrain. While the quad-motor powertrain will still be available, the introduction of the Enduro variant will help Rivian address its production delays. However, the Enduro powertrain will offer a range of up to 400 miles compared to its quad-motor powertrain, which has a maximum range of 321 miles.

  • The trucks will be available at a starting base price of USD 73,000.

  • Rivian initially started production of the Enduro drive units in February for the company’s electric delivery vans, which is now extended to its pick truck.
