Tokamak Energy, a British company aiming to commercially generate electricity using fusion energy, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with General Atomics (GA), a US-based defense and diversified technologies company.
The two companies intend to collaborate on High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) technology for fusion energy and other industry applications. The partnership builds on GA’s manufacturing capabilities relating to large-scale magnet systems and Tokamak Energy’s expertise in HTS magnet technologies.
Analyst QuickTake: In January 2023 , Tokamak Energy also signed an agreement with Furukawa Electric Group, where the latter agreed to supply specialist high-temperature superconducting (HTS) tape for Tokamak Energy’s prototype fusion device ST80-HTS. The ST80-HTS is expected to be the world’s first high-field spherical tokamak using high-temperature superconducting magnets and is set to be completed by 2026.
