Solar Foods, an alternative protein ingredient developer, has entered a strategic alliance with Japanese food and biotech company Ajinomoto to develop products using the former’s flagship protein, Solein.
The companies also plan to conduct a market feasibility study in Singapore before the launch of its commercial production facility in 2024. Moreover, they will collaborate to secure market licenses in regions other than Singapore.
Analyst QuickTake: Solein, a single-cell protein made using microbial fermentation, is created through a bioprocess that uses CO2, hydrogen, oxygen, and minimal nutrients instead of relying on sugars. This innovative production method eliminates the challenges associated with traditional agriculture and weather-related risks. Solein has been used to produce approximately 20 products. Partnering with Ajinomoto, a leader in food production, helps Solar Foods navigate the regulatory landscape and leverage the industry expertise of Ajinomoto for its growth and expansion.
