OverActive Media reaches agreement with the Overwatch League to waive outstanding entry fees

Partnerships

  • Canadian esports team organization OverActive Media (OAM) has entered an agreement with the Overwatch League (OWL) which includes 1) the elimination of outstanding league entry fees, 2) early payment of league revenue share, and 3) a league sponsorship for its OWL franchise, Toronto Defiant. The overall value of the agreement is estimated to be CAD 10.8 million (~USD 8.1 million).

  • The deal comes following attempts from the majority of OWL’s teams to set up a collective bargaining process against the league and its owner, Activision Blizzard. The teams complained of high operating costs and “continually missed promises on revenue.”
