Unilever's plant-based meat brand, The Vegetarian Butcher, has launched NoBacon 2.0, a plant-based bacon product featuring a new patented fat tissue technology currently only available in the Netherlands.
NoBacon 2.0 aims to replicate the texture, oil release, and translucency of real bacon using plant oils. It also claims to offer improved fat release and crispness and can be fried without additional oil. Similar to the first iteration of No Bacon, this is made from soy and wheat protein.
According to Unilever, NoBacon 2.0 solves previous issues with plant-based bacon by enhancing the release of fat during cooking, mimicking the behavior of animal-based fat. The product provides a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional bacon, aligning with The Vegetarian Butcher's mission of eliminating animals from the food chain.
