DroneUp partners with Carilion Clinic to explore drone-based medical deliveries in Virginia

Partnerships

  • DroneUp, a drone-based delivery services provider, has partnered with Carilion Clinic, a Virginia-based, non-profit integrated healthcare organization, to explore the use of drones for healthcare delivery in Virginia.

  • The companies are conducting a three-week, proof-of-concept study this month to assess the effectiveness of using drones to deliver medical supplies.

  • The companies will first focus on making internal deliveries between offices and medical facilities in Roanoke Valley, with plans to expand operations to deliver items to patients’ homes later.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Today’s partnership marks the second healthcare-related delivery project DroneUp is currently undertaking. The company is also conducting a similar test in collaboration with Riverside Health System to offer drone-based last-mile delivery of prescription medication to patients on the Eastern Shore and Tangier Island, Virginia.
