Squarespace, a no-code platform to build websites, announced that it has entered a definitive asset purchase agreement with Google to acquire its Google Domains business for an undisclosed sum.
This agreement will include the purchase of around 10 million domains hosted on Google Domains, which will be shutting down after a transition period. Squarespace stated that it will be honoring all existing Google Domains customers' renewal prices for at least 12 months following the closing of the transaction, while also incentivizing customers to build a website with Squarespace and adopt additional Squarespace offerings.
Following the purchase, which is expected to close in the third quarter of 2023, Squarespace will act as the only domain provider for Google Workspace customers who buy a domain with their subscription for at least three years.
