Rivian, a developer of battery-electric vehicles, has partnered with Tesla to provide Rivian's customers with access to Tesla's Supercharger charging network in the US and Canada, starting in 2024.
Rivian plans to introduce an adaptor to connect its vehicles and Tesla Superchargers in spring 2024 (March–June). The company also plans to incorporate Tesla’s proprietary EV-charging connector system, “North American Charging System (NACS),” as standard equipment for its future models by 2025.
The initiative provides Rivian with access to over 12,000 of Tesla’s superchargers and will enhance the network of DC fast chargers available for Rivian customers to more than 25,000 units. Rivian’s current charging network consists of its own Rivian Adventure Network and public charging stations partnered with the company.
Analyst QuickTake: Tesla’s Supercharger network, which was only available for the use of Tesla’s own vehicles, was opened for the use of charging network operators and other vehicle manufacturers in 2022. Since then, automakers such as Ford (May 2023) and General Motors (June 2023) have partnered with Tesla to access this technology.
