LanzaJet, a LanzaTech spin-off that produces sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) using low-carbon ethanol, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus, a multinational aerospace corporation.
Under this partnership, the companies will develop SAF facilities that will use LanzaJet's Alcohol-to-Jet (ATJ) technology, which is compatible with existing aircraft and infrastructure. The partnership also aims to accelerate the certification and adoption of 100% drop-in SAF.
Analyst QuickTake: In the same month, LanzaTech and LanzaJet were chosen by Air New Zealand and the New Zealand Ministry for Business, Innovation, and Employment (MBIE) to support a study examining the commercial viability and sustainability of domestically producing SAF in New Zealand. LanzaTech is expected to use its gas fermentation technology to transform waste raw materials into ATJ technology. The study is set to be completed by mid-2024.
