Modern Meadow, a developer of collagen-based materials derived from plant proteins, has formed a strategic partnership with BASF, a leading chemical company, to create an animal-free material called Bio-VERA that replicates the look, feel, and aging properties of traditional leather, suede, or chamois.
The collaboration aims to integrate BASF's Ultramid Ccycled solution, which incorporates post-consumer waste and bio-renewable technologies, with Modern Meadow's Bio-Alloy technology to develop Bio-VERA.
The partnership also paves the way for the production of sustainable biomaterials with potential applications in industries such as fashion, automotive, and consumer goods.
Analyst QuickTake: Modern Meadow has been developing its biofabrication technology to create an alternative to fossil fuel-based textile coatings and utilizes this technology to upscale biomaterials for various applications. Early this year, Modern Meadow also partnered with Singtex and Tory Burch to develop products using Bio-Alloy.
