Heura, a Spanish plant-based meat company, has collaborated with 450 schools across the Iberian peninsula to supply plant-based meats for school meals. The company plans to expand the program to 550 schools and reach other European regions, including France, Italy, the UK, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.
This program aims to provide kids with sustainable alternatives to meat and drive the adoption of plant-based meats from a younger age. Furthermore, the program includes training programs to educate parents and school staff regarding ingredients in Heura’s products and the importance of sustainable food options.
Analyst QuickTake: Mass adoption continues to be an obstacle for plant-based meats due to a lack of information regarding ingredients and the production process, among others. This program addresses this by providing information to adults who ultimately make the purchasing decision. Impossible Foods, a leading player in the plant-based space, serves nearly 500 schools across the US and has created products targeting K-12 school cafeteria lunches. VFC , Heinz , and Akua have also released products aimed at a younger audience in an attempt to get children accustomed to plant-based meats from an early age.
