Protein Industries Canada to focus on AI for new plant-based food and ingredients

Industry news

  • Protein Industries Canada (PIC), an industry non-profit, has issued a CAD 10 million (~USD 8 million) call for plant-based food tech projects utilizing AI. The funds will expedite the commercialization of novel plant-based food and ingredients to advance the development of Canada's plant-based space.

  • This program aims to explore new avenues of utilizing AI to accelerate formulation work and reduce production costs related to food and ingredient development. Further, these projects may include AI-powered process automation for safety and quality control, the development of products to meet certain health criteria, and the reduction of food waste.

  • Analyst QuickTake: AI and machine learning are increasingly used in most industries as a method to make processes more efficient, either through automation or as a supplement to human work. Climax Foods, The Live Green Co , and NotCo are a few companies that are already utilizing AI in the plant-based space for the development of their products.
