Cultimate Foods, a German biotech startup specializing in cultivated fats, has introduced a functional ingredient called CultiFat. CultiFat was featured in a hybrid burger at a tasting event hosted by ProVeg Incubator.
CultiFat aims to replace flavorings, coconut oil, and methylcellulose in plant-based meat. It is derived from cell-cultivated beef and pork fat, containing fatty acids that contribute to the taste and aroma of meat.
Analyst QuickTake: The funding from Cultimate Foods’ EUR 700,000 (~USD 721,100) pre-seed round last year was earmarked for the validation of its cultivated fat product, among other objectives. According to the company, its novel 3D cultivation process develops products that replicate the structure of animal fat tissue with a similar taste profile and mouthfeel as conventional animal products.
