Vianode, a Norwegian company developing anode materials using synthetic graphite, has been selected for a EUR 90 million (~USD 100.8 million) grant from the European Commission through the EU Innovation Fund. This is part of a EUR 3.6 billion (~USD 4 billion) award for 41 clean tech projects.
The company intends to use the funds to develop a large-scale plant to advance the innovative production of synthetic graphite.
Founded in 2020, Vianode is developing a range of anode graphite products that are manufactured with up to 90% lower CO2 emissions than standard industry materials. The company has carried out a successful pilot production and is now focusing on large-scale production in Norway with a goal to deliver battery materials to 2 million EVs per year by 2030. Vianode is backed by Elkem, Hydro, and Altor Equity Partners’ Fund V.
