Kodiak and Drivewyze launch motor vehicle inspection program for autonomous trucks in Texas

Partnerships

  • Kodiak Robotics, an autonomous truck manufacturer, and Drivewyze, a provider of weigh station bypass solutions, have partnered with the Texas Department of Public Safety to pilot a motor vehicle inspection program for autonomous trucks. The program intends to streamline interactions between autonomous trucks and law enforcement at fixed inspection sites, allowing autonomous trucks to have a pre-clearance of roadside inspections.

  • As a part of the program, a Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA)-certified inspector will carry out an inspection of an autonomous truck combination, which will be valid for a period of 24 hours. Kodiak would input the result of the inspection, using Drivwyze’s systems to communicate a sample safety data message to roadside enforcement officials at the inspection sites, enabling the trucks that have participated in the program to be excluded from routine roadside inspections.

  • Kodiak plans to expand the program to other states in the future.
