Nikola to receive fuel-cell power modules from Bosch

Partnerships

  • Nikola Motor Company (Nikola), a developer of heavy-duty battery-electric (BEV) and fuel-cell electric vehicle (FCEV) trucks, has partnered with German multinational engineering and technology company Bosch to obtain fuel-cell power modules for its Nikola Tre Class 8 FCEV trucks.

  • Nikola will be the pilot customer of Bosch’s fuel-cell power module, which is currently in commercial production at the Bosch Stuttgart-Feuerbach plant.

  • Nikola plans to commence the production of Tre Class 8 FCEV for the US market later this year.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Nikola and Bosch initially partnered in 2017 to develop Nikola’s Tre Class 8 long-haul hydrogen fuel-cell truck, with the production scheduled to commence in 2021. However, the launch was delayed due to issues faced by Nikola in 2020. In September 2021, Nikola again partnered with Bosch to license the latter’s technology for hydrogen fuel-cell power modules, with plans to assemble them at Nikola’s own facility in Coolidge, Arizona.
