Altilium (formerly Altilium Metals), a London-based CleanTech startup, has been awarded two grants totaling GBP 1 million (~USD 1.3 million) from the UK government for the zero-carbon transportation of end-of-life EV batteries to battery recycling stations (or spokes) and the design of an automated battery recycling facility for black mass processing.
Under these projects, the company will develop solutions for automated battery sorting and discharge for over 150,000 EV batteries per year. The company claims that its planned Teesside plant will be producing over 20% of the UK’s required cathode active materials (CAM) by 2030, making it one of the largest projects in the region.
Analyst QuickTake: Altilium Metals continues to receive support from the UK Government to transform the UK automotive industry. Previously, in November 2022, the company secured GBP 3 million (~USD 3.9 million) in UK government innovation funding to develop its technology for extracting metals from spent batteries.
