Nikola Motor Company (Nikola), a developer of heavy-duty battery-electric (BEV) and fuel-cell electric vehicle (FCEV) trucks, has been awarded USD 16.3 million in regulatory grant funding. The funding is intended to support seven open-network hydrogen refueling stations.
The funds stemmed from several sources including the Sacramento Metro AQMD (USD 7 million), the South Coast AQMD (USD 4.4 million), the EnergIIZE West Sacramento California Energy Commission (USD 3.3 million), and the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (USD 1.6 million).
Together with the USD 41.9 million grant awarded by the California Transportation Commission (CTC) in July 2023 , the company has now received a total of USD 58.2 million in regulatory funding within the last 30 days.
Nikola plans to develop an open network of commercial hydrogen refueling stations beginning in California and then across North America.
