Via partners with Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) to launch microtransit pilot program

Partnerships

  • Via, a provider of mobility management systems, announced its selection as the software and operations partner for Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT), a mass transit provider for the Charlottesville area, to launch a pilot program for an on-demand microtransit public transportation service in Albemarle County.

  • The service, called “MicroCAT,” will provide app-based, on-demand rides from a fleet of vehicles, including hybrid electric vehicles and wheelchair-accessible vehicles, in areas identified as in need of increased mobility access, such as Pantops and Route 29 North in Albemarle County.

  • As part of the partnership, Via would provide its TransitTech software and operations support, where its intelligent algorithms are said to be used to match riders heading in the same direction as the shared vehicles.
