ITM Power, a hydrogen energy solutions developer listed on the London Stock Exchange, has partnered with FRIEM, a developer of electric energy conversion systems, to jointly develop a standard Power Supply Unit (PSU) design for ITM's 2 MW Plug & Play electrolysis container.
ITM and FRIEM aim to generate an improved performance in the PSU through close integration with ITM’s electrolyzer technology. The companies also intend to improve system stability while lowering costs through standardization.
Electrolysis solutions, such as those developed by ITM, require electrical energy to split water into hydrogen and oxygen gases. Therefore, power conversion is a key function of electrolysis systems. The PSU operates by converting AC power to DC power as suitable for electrolysis. As such, the PSU impacts the system’s overall performance.
Analyst QuickTake: ITM Power also partnered with Mott Corporation in July 2023 to advance its proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis. The two companies reported plans to work on advancing porous transport layers (PTL) to improve the efficiency and performance of ITM’s PEM electrolysis technology. This will then be used to develop ITM’s next-generation stack.
