Beep, an autonomous shuttle operator, has launched an autonomous shuttle pilot service, known as the “Loop” on Treasure Island, California.
The Loop, funded by grants from transportation authorities, operates on public roads and follows a fixed route with seven stops, serving around 2,000 residents, including wheelchair users.
The service is offered between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., with a human supervisor onboard and monitored remotely by Beep. However, the services will be suspended during heavy rain or fog.
Analyst QuickTake: This is not the first time Beep has launched its autonomous shuttles in California; the company launched a similar shuttle program in Ranch Business Park in San Ramon, California, in April 2023. The company has also launched its shuttles in various locations in Georgia, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, and Wyoming.
