Plus partners with Transurban to test autonomous driving technology in Australia

Partnerships

  • Plus (formerly Plus.ai), an autonomous truck manufacturer, has partnered with Transurban, a company that manages and develops urban toll road networks in Australia, Canada, and the US, to advance Transurban's automated freight program in Victoria, Australia.

  • The partnership will test Plus’ Level 4 autonomous driving technology (i.e., fully autonomous vehicles limited to specific locations or conditions) in combination with smart road infrastructure to explore the benefits of connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) on public motorways.

  • Transurban’s CAV-testing program was launched in 2017 and to date, has carried out 11 successful trials of fully and partially automated vehicles on motorways across Australia and North America. The trials focus on testing how the CAVs respond to road infrastructure. In 2022, Transurban successfully conducted its first self-driving truck trial on CityLink and the Monash Freeway.

  • Analyst QuickTake : Plus continuously focuses on expanding its geographical presence. The company commenced testing its Level 2 PlusDrive-equipped trucks in Europe and China in December 2021 . In July 2023 , Plus commenced public road testing in Germany with plans to expand testing to Austria, France, Italy, and Switzerland.
