Alphabet’s Wing partners with Walmart to offer drone-based deliveries in Dallas, Texas

Partnerships

  • Wing, the drone delivery division operated by Alphabet, has partnered with retail giant Walmart to offer a drone-based, on-demand delivery service from two Walmart stores in Dallas, Texas, covering 60,000 households in total.

  • The service will initially launch from the Walmart Supercenter at Preston Road in Frisco, offering delivery for Walmart’s customers within a six-mile radius. With this, the Preston Road location will become the 11th drone hub of Walmart’s operations in Dallas.

  • Customers will be able to place orders for a range of products such as frozen items, household essentials, meal solutions, eggs, etc.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Walmart started looking at drone-based delivery options in 2020—entering into a string of partnerships with drone-based delivery service providers such as DroneUp, Flytrex, and Zipline. The company is already conducting drone-based deliveries in multiple locations, including Texas and Arkansas, and today’s partnership with Wing will help Walmart further its goal of promoting convenient delivery for customers.
