CellRev, a UK-based bioprocessing company, has signed a joint development agreement (JDA) with Saint-Gobain Life Sciences (SGLS) to develop a novel process for media rejuvenation. The goal of this collaboration is to reduce costs and waste in the production of cell-cultured meat.
During the cell-culturing process, toxins are released into the growth media, making it unsuitable for reuse. To overcome this issue, the partnership aims to develop a filtering process for removing toxins and metabolites from spent media.
CellRev will leverage its industry knowledge to spearhead the development of the process, and SGLS will lend its knowledge and expertise in creating bespoke components for fluid management systems. Multiple phases of development are planned, with products expected to be available in 2024.
