Squeaky Bean enters plant-based seafood category with ready-to-eat fish alternative range

Product updates

  • Squeaky Bean, a UK-based plant-based food company, has launched its first fish alternative range, which includes vegan smoked salmon-style slices and tuna-style flakes. Both products will be available at Waitrose Supermarket by the end of September.

  • The smoked salmon-style slices are made from modified starch, trehalose, and thickeners, while the tuna-style flakes use textured wheat protein. Both products are ready to eat and claim to be high in protein, low in saturated fat, and a good source of Omega-3.

  • The smoked salmon-style slices retail at GBP 3.50 (~USD 4.50) for an 80 g pack, and the tuna-style flakes retail at GBP 3.25 (~USD 4.10)  for a 120 g pack. These are 5% and 32% more expensive than real seafood products sold at Waitrose.
