Nestlé, one of the largest diversified food and beverage companies, has expanded its plant-based product range with shelf-stable stock-keeping units (SKUs) under the Maggi Veg brand in Chile.
The new soy-based range is the company's first shelf-stable plant-based minced meat and is certified vegan. It combines vegan mincemeat with seasoning and can be used in dishes such as tacos, empanadas, or spaghetti bolognese.
Analyst QuickTake: Earlier this year, Nestlé pulled the plug on its vegan brand, Garden Gourmet. Amidst the challenges of the plant-based meat space, the company aimed to divert its investments from specific vegan brands to develop new vegan products under its core portfolio, as evident from this new launch. Further, Nestlé’s Israeli food unit, Tivall, partnered with More Foods in June to develop a new range of plant-based meat products using pumpkin seeds for main meals.
