Sylvera, a UK-based company providing carbon offset ratings, has received an undisclosed grant from Innovate UK, the UK's national innovation agency, to fund the monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) of carbon removal in peatlands of the UK.
Sylvera expects to utilize the funds for Phase II of its peatland restoration CGR-Peat project in partnership with the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology. This phase will focus on demonstrating proof-of-concept of the proposed MRV techniques for peatlands obtained from field research, machine learning development, and testing.
The research, which was initiated in August 2023, is expected to end by July 2024. With the new insights, Sylvera aims to enhance the uptake of peatland revitalization initiatives and the resulting carbon credits.
