The US Department of Energy (DOE) announced a USD 15.5 billion package of funding and loans to convert existing factories for the production of EVs, under President Biden’s Investing in America agenda.
It includes 1) USD 2 billion grants and USD 10 billion loans for manufacturers to transition into EV production and 2) a Notice of Intent for USD 3.5 billion to enhance domestic manufacturing of EV batteries and battery materials and components currently imported.
The funding would be allocated to companies that maintain collective bargaining agreements and just wages for the automotive workforce.
In August 2023, the US DOE announced its first Notice of Intent under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for developing EV-battery recycling.
