US DOE announces USD 15.5 billion funding for EVs

Industry news

  • The US Department of Energy (DOE) announced a USD 15.5 billion package of funding and loans to convert existing factories for the production of EVs, under President Biden’s Investing in America agenda.

  • It includes 1) USD 2 billion grants and USD 10 billion loans for manufacturers to transition into EV production and 2) a Notice of Intent for USD 3.5 billion to enhance domestic manufacturing of EV batteries and battery materials and components currently imported.

  • The funding would be allocated to companies that maintain collective bargaining agreements and just wages for the automotive workforce.

  • In August 2023, the US DOE announced its first Notice of Intent under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for developing EV-battery recycling.
