Swedish startup Renewcell has teamed up with Finnish firm Spinnova to develop and commercialise textile waste-based fibre. Spinnova will fund half of the €3.9m ($4.2m) project cost with a Business Finland grant. Renewell's Circulose technology, which converts textile waste into man-made cellulosic fibres, will be combined with Spinnova's spinning process to produce bio-based textile fibres without the need for chemical treatment. The partnership is the first of its kind to fast-track textile-to-textile fibre production. The companies plan to launch commercial products using this technology by the end of 2024.
