Meta announced an expansion of the availability of Horizon World to mobile devices and web browsers, moving accessibility beyond VR headsets.
Initially, a limited number of users will be able to access the "Super Rumble" game through the Meta Quest app on Android, with iOS support expected in the upcoming weeks. The platform can also be accessed via a web browser at horizon.meta.com.
Apart from Super Rumble, more worlds are anticipated to be supported soon, and the move is seen as a significant step in Meta's overarching metaverse strategy, emphasizing metaverse accessibility.
Analyst QuickTake: The expansion of accessibility will help change the company’s declining user retention rates on Horizon Worlds, which reportedly faced only one in ten users returning to the platform in November 2022 . To further aid this effort, Meta introduced avatar legs in beta in August 2023 ; although currently accessible on Quest Home, the initial environment a user sees when logging in.
