CellX, a Chinese developer of cell-cultured meats, announced it has completed the pilot production of cultivated fish cells in 200-liter bioreactors.
According to the company, its technology and research have enabled expedited suspension differentiation of fish cells and marked a crucial step toward industrial applications.
Further, the first batch resulted in a unit cost of CNY 400 (~USD 55), which the company claims can be reduced further once industrial-scale production begins.
Analyst QuickTake: CellX opened its pilot facility merely a month ago and has demonstrated results in a short span, underscoring its commitment to developing meat alternatives. By growing cell lines in suspension and using low-cost serum-free culture medium, the company plans to bring prices to below USD 100 per pound.
