Climeworks, a Swiss direct air capture (DAC) startup, has partnered with Great Carbon Valley (GCV), a Kenyan green project development venture, to develop multiple large-scale direct air capture and storage (DAC+S) facilities in Kenya. The partners will form a joint venture to deploy the project.
Initially, Climeworks and GCV will explore viable locations for the DAC+S facilities, low-carbon energy sources, and locations for CO2 sequestration.
The partnership aims to remove and permanently sequester one million metric tons of CO2 from the atmosphere from the commercialized facilities in 2028.
