C-Crete Technologies, a material science company, has received USD 2 million in funding from the US Department of Energy to accelerate the development of cement-free concrete, which consists of captured CO2 from industrial waste sources or the air.
The funding is expected to improve the company’s patented cement-free binder technology that uses different feedstocks with low CO2 in its manufacturing process. C-Crete intends to create the industry’s first ready-mix carbon-negative building material through its technology.
Founded in 2010, C-Crete Technologies is focused on producing the next generation of infrastructure materials with low or negative CO2 footprints. The company inserts CO2 as a diluted gas into concrete to create carbon-negative building materials. C-Crete's concrete has been piloted in several commercial projects to date.
